Final day Premier League permutations: What's still at stake?

sbobet222 Ahead of the final day of the Premier League season on Sunday, we take a look at what's still at stake. What do Chelsea need in order to beat Liverpool to the final Champions League spot?. And do Swansea have any hope of beating the drop and sending Southampton down?.

Here's our breakdown of the final day permutations.
The final Champions League spot
Tottenham have joined Manchester City and Manchester United in next season's Champions League after their 1-0 win over Newcastle and Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Huddersfield on Wednesday, but the fourth spot is not yet decided. Liverpool are in the driving seat. Jurgen Klopp's side currently sit fourth on 72 points - two more than fifth-placed Chelsea - and their superior goal difference (+42 to Chelsea's +27) means they will all but guarantee Champions League qualification as long as they avoid defeat at home to Brighton on Sunday. Chelsea's only realistic hope is to win away at Newcastle on Sunday and hope that Liverpool are beaten by Brighton. sbobet222

The final top-10 spot
Arsenal and Burnley are already guaranteed the Europa League spots but there is one remaining place in the top-10 still to play for. Newcastle currently occupy it despite their 1-0 loss to Tottenham on Wednesday, but they are joined on 41 points by Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Watford, while Brighton - on 40 points - are also in the frame. Rafael Benitez's side will clinch 10th-place with a win over Chelsea on Sunday, but drop points and Palace, who host West Brom, Bournemouth, who travel to Burnley, Watford, who are away at Manchester United, and Brighton, who face Liverpool at Anfield, will all hope to take advantage. sbobet222

Liverpool must end their losing final habit to avoid becoming a Tottenham Hotspur

sbobet88888 Reds are now in prime position to end their trophy drought - and halt a worrying club record run. For every action, there is a reaction. And Zinedine Zidane has never been one to do things by halves. Not content with immortalising himself as both player and manager, in doing so the Real Madrid legend has highlighted the shortcomings of others. And Liverpool have been caught in his whirlwind.

Back in 2002, Zidane produced one of the great Champions League final goals – arguably the greatest until Gareth Bale popped up last Saturday – to beat Bayer Leverkusen. For Leverkusen, it was the ultimate heartbreak of a season in which they finished runners-up not only in Europe, but also the Bundesliga and the German Cup final. In three of the previous five seasons, they'd finished second in the league. Such a run earned them the nickname Neverkusen.

They haven't won anything since.
In Kiev, Zidane led Real Madrid to their third successive Champions League final triumph before promptly quitting on Thursday as head coach. Job done.  Jurgen Klopp, meanwhile, has been left to ponder another final defeat, infamously his sixth in succession. What has largely been overlooked, though, is that it was Liverpool's fourth straight final loss, following the League Cup and Europa League defeats under Klopp in 2016 and the 2012 FA Cup final reverse with Kenny Dalglish in charge. That's the Reds' worst such run in their history, a period during which they also finished runners-up in the Premier League to Manchester City under Brendan Rodgers in 2014. sbobet88888

Small wonder, then, the whispers of Loserpool on social media.
Such reputations can be difficult to shake off. If winning becomes a habit, then so too does getting beat, what could be regarded as merely one of those things mutating into a significant psychological block. All the old cliches come into play, not least that the first trophy is the most difficult to win. The longer that wait goes on, the greater the pressure, the louder the muttering. Consider the recent finals record of Liverpool's main Premier League rivals.

Since their shock FA Cup final defeat to Wigan Athletic, Manchester City have won three finals and won the Premier League title twice. Chelsea have won seven of their last eight finals, Arsenal three of their last four, while Manchester United had won their previous three before losing to Chelsea in the FA Cup final last month. Real Madrid, for the record, have won six of their last seven major finals, four of which have been in the Champions League. None of these teams can be regarded as specialists in failure, the term Jose Mourinho incorrectly used to describe departed Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger. sbobet88888
